The Contemporary Friends of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History today officially announced Detroit Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick and First Lady Carlita Kilpatrick; Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm and First Gentleman Daniel Mulhern; Roderick D. Gillum and Dr. Linda Gillum; and syndicated Judge Greg Mathis as Honorary Chairpersons for the 2nd Annual Fire Ball Weekend. Sparked last year, the Fire Ball is a sizzling fundraiser for the museum slated to blaze on Aug. 11- 12, 2006. In addition, Hip-Hop legend DJ Doug E. Fresh will provide searing musical sets for the fiery fundraiser, which raised approximately $150,000 last year for the museum.

"The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History continues to be a cultural pillar to the Detroit community and it is imperative that we remain vigilant in preserving the legacy of Dr. Charles H. Wright," said Contemporary Friends founder Hiram E. Jackson. "Last year, we engaged a younger generation of donors and supporters who stepped up to the task of supporting the museum. This year, we're planning a more exciting and unique experience for Fire Ball 2006 that will surely turn up the heat for Detroit Tastemakers while providing a venue for the 45-and-under age group to get engaged with the museum."

Fire Ball Weekend 2006 ignites on Friday, August 11, 2006 with the invitation-only VIP reception, followed by the Fashion on Campus Martius event, featuring the clothing lines of House of Dereon and Ryan Kenny; completed with a sexy afterglow. The event simmers and then re-ignites the following night Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, for the fiery gala.

The Fire Ball continues to draw a distinguished list of supporters including sponsors such as General Motors, Greektown Casino, House of Courvoisier, and Pepsi. Ticket prices begin at $200 for this fiery event, with all access VIP weekend packages available on a limited basis.

Fire Ball 2005 proved to be Detroit's "hottest" event of the year. Fire Ball 2006 promises to turn up the heat with a hip, Hollywood-style, contemporary environment with a comfortable, upscale summer evening chic dress code. The electrifying and energetic atmosphere will also have the red-hot energy and excitement of music, film and sports celebrities, frenzied paparazzi, a few surprise guests and an eclectic mix of today's hottest music. Fire Ball's dramatic scenery includes a red carpeted entrance, beautifully appointed furnishings, and private Cabanas.

Guests will also enjoy incredible cuisine from the trendiest restaurants in the metropolitan Detroit area, while taking time to relax and unwind or simply dance the night away with Detroit's historical site as a backdrop.
