Disney's Touchstone Pictures has entered into a deal with Missy Elliott to score its upcoming film, "Stick It," which releases in theatres nationwide in April 2006. Mike Simpson of Dust Brothers fame (producer of Beck and The Beastie Boys) will collaborate on the score. Elliott shot the video for the film's theme song, "We Run This," on January 3 & 4 in Los Angeles with long-time collaborator Dave Meyers. Olympic gold-medalist Dominique Dawes makes a cameo as Missy's "gymnastics coach" in the video. "Having Missy involved in scoring and as the single and video is an unprecedented creative event which will ensure our film the highest visibility to its core audience" says Mitchell Leib, President of Music and Soundtracks for Walt Disney Pictures & Television and Buena Vista Music Group.Superdev1

"We Run This" is also the third single off of Elliott's 4x GRAMMY-nominated album, The Cookbook. Elliot received 2 additional GRAMMY nominations for her work with Ciara and Fantasia. The 48th Annual GRAMMY Awards will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It was also announced recently that Elliott has been nominated for a Brit Award for "Best Female International Solo Act." The Brits will take place in London on February 15th.

The Cookbook, Elliott's 6th album, debuted at #2 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums Chart and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart upon its release last July and finished out 2005 strong, making it onto a number of year-end lists including:

  • Rolling Stone's Top 50 Albums of 2005 - "she's as singular a rhymer as she is a stylish hitmaker."
  • Spin's 20 Best Singles of 2005 - touting "Lose Control" as "the year's most riotous beat, if not the best song."
  • Blender's Greatest Songs of 2005 for "On & On" which earned the Neptunes a GRAMMY nomination for "Producer of the Year."

Missy Elliott is a five-time Grammy Award winner and the best-selling female hip-hop artist of all time. Her many accolades include 17 MTV award nominations, 3 BET Awards, 2 American Music Awards and 5 Lady of Soul/Soul Train Awards. Not only a visionary recording artist and performer, Elliott is one of the few women who enjoy an equal amount of success behind the scenes. As a prolific songwriter and producer, she has acquired a star-studded list of production credits that includes Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, and Destiny's Child, among others. As the head of her own record label, The Goldmind, Inc., she launched the career of R&B star Tweet. Elliott wrapped up the first season of her dramality show, UPN's The Road To Stardom with Missy Elliott, in March 2005. Information on Touchstone Pictures' STICK IT:

The writer of the hit comedy "Bring It On," takes on the world of competitive gymnastics in STICK IT. Rebellious 17-year old Haley Graham (MISSY PEREGRYM) is a natural athlete who seems to be more interested in hanging with her skater punk friends, listening to thrasher music and causing trouble than competing in gymnastics. But after her latest run-in with the law, a judge sentences Haley to her ultimate nightmare -- attending an elite gymnastics academy run by legendary hardnosed coach Burt Vickerman (JEFF BRIDGES). Immediately clashing with Burt's rigid training system, Haley's rebellious spirit and quick-witted banter quickly shakes things up at the strict school - making both close friends and bitter foes along the way. However, when her own competitive aspirations and rivalries begin to surface, Haley must choose between personal glory and the loyalty and friendship of her new teammates.

Missy Elliott's nominations for the 48th annual GRAMMY Awards are as follows:

BEST RAP SONG - "Lose Control"

BEST RAP ALBUM - The Cookbook
