Crunk rap aartist Lil Jon is known for his hyper-aggressive sound, but lately he's been exploring the softer side of crunk. He's produced hits for Ciara, Nivea and Brooke Valentine, and his latest smash, "Lovers & Friends" with his East Side Boyz crew, Usher and Ludacris, is more appropriate for a "quiet storm" moment than hard-driving hip-hop.
But Lil Jon says those beats are nothing new.
"Every album we do, we have songs for the ladies on it," he told The Associated Press in a recent interview. "You've got to wanna be with the ladies. I'm just getting more popular as an artist, so people are noticing more."
The hip-hop star says there's a certain kind of music that gets the ladies' attention, especially on the dance floor.
"It's really like the tempos. Women like to dance to stuff that's more uptempo. The guys, we're more downtempo, more bounce."
He'll be bringing that vibe to arenas across the country this summer as he joins Eminem and 50 Cent on their "Anger Management 3" tour. It will be his first tour in two years.
"Eminem personally invited us to come on tour and do our thing and get people crunk," says Lil Jon. "He really likes our music."
