The lawyer for rapper C-Murder, who angered authorities by recording parts of his forthcoming music video and compact disc behind bars, has agreed to take only a pencil into the jail when he talks to his client. The rapper, whose real name is Corey Miller, has been inside the Jefferson Parish jail for over three years, facing a second-degree murder charge in the killing of a 16-year-old inside a nightclub.
While awaiting a second trial, a version of a music video for a new album's single showed Miller in an orange prison outfit in jail complaining that he and other poor blacks must endure racial profiling.
Now, his lawyer, Ron Rakosky is allowed to bring legal documents into the jail, but he can only use a pencil.
The sheriff's attorney, Ken Fonte, says pens were barred because they are hollow and can be used to transport song lyrics. Rakosky said he welcomed the agreement.
In the meantime, Rakosky has asked the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal to reconsider its March 10 decision that upheld the rapper's conviction, which had been set aside last year by the state district judge.
